
As an Ante and Post Natal Exercise Instructor, you will enable you to support mothers to safely exercise during pregnancy and after birth. You will gain the skills, knowledge and competence required in order to work with ante and post natal clients in an unsupervised manner. Topics include:
Considering Safe & Effective Exercise
You will develop an understanding of the underpinning biomechanical, physiological and anatomical changes that occur during and after pregnancy, enabling you to prescribe safe and effective exercise.
Understand the benefits of exercise for this group of women
You’ll be able to identify the benefits of exercise for each stage including the trimesters, labour, childbirth and post-natal.
Understand how to support ante natal and post natal clients exercise
You’ll be able to develop an effective working relationship with ante or post natal clients, helping them to overcome any real or perceived barriers to exercise they may have.
Contraindications to Exercise
You’ll learn the relative absolute contraindications to exercise for ante natal and post natal clients. You’ll also know which exercises to avoid for each trimester and for post natal clients.
Managing Risks During Exercise
On top of contraindications, you’ll be able to identify risks, spot warning signs that indicate a client should stop exercising and how to respond to any warning signs.
Nutrition
You’ll be able to describe the important of a balancing diets for ante natal and post natal clients, including sources of food which are important, foods which should be avoided and explain why they should be avoided.
Programme design for ante natal and post natal clients
You’ll gain enhanced skills in screening, planning and adapting exercise for ante natal and post natal clients. You’ll be able to analyse data to plan your programmes effectively. You will be able to tailor your sessions so that they’re appropriate to the needs of your client and their stage of pregnancy or post natal recovery.
