Low back pain is a problem that around 80% of the population will face in their lifetime. As a qualified Level 4 Low Back Pain exercise specialist, you can play a crucial in helping your client manage and possibly recover from their condition. 

In this Level 4 Lower Back Pain Course you will gain an understanding of how to assess individual client needs. This will include exploring posture, movement range, muscle imbalance and more. You’ll also gain the interpersonal skills to help manage your client’s wellbeing, offering motivation and support throughout their recovery.

This course is aimed anyone looking to play a crucial role in helping clients manage pain and recovery from lower back pain problems. You must already completed our Level 3 Diploma in Exercise Referral Course.

Learning Outcomes

Outcomes from our Level 3 Sports Massage Course

With a Level 4 specialism, you’ll gain a deep understand of your chosen medical condition and how to effectively program physical activities for effected clients. Combined with your Level 3 Exercise Referral qualification, this course will enable you to become an exercise specialist, working on referral schemes to help clients who have low back pain. The aim of this qualification is to provide the learner with the appropriate knowledge and skills to design, deliver, monitor and evaluate structured, individualised physical activity programmes for adults with low back pain, in accordance with current evidence-based guidelines.

By the end of this course, you will learn:

Programming Physical Activities for Individuals with Low Back Pain

You will be able to understand how to risk stratify individuals with low back pain before participating in exercise. You will be able to gather the necessary information to plan safe and effective exercise programmes, set SMART goals and design a progressive physical activity programme with wide-ranging lifestyle advice included. You will learn how to conduct reviews and adapt your programme.

Instructing Physical Activity for Individuals with Low Back Pain

You will learn how to prepare a safe and effective training environment, and will gain enhanced instruction skills to cue, motivate, progress and regress clients who low back pain. You will learn how to analyse the effectiveness of your sessions in the context of the overall programme and goals of your client. 

Principles and Epidemiology of Low Back Pain

You will be able to define low back pain, deferentiate between NSLBP and specific spinal pathology definitions. You will gain enhanced knowledge of the anatomy and physiology associated to Low Back Pain, identifying its common causes and understand the national statistics on the prevalence of low back pain to society. You will understand the risk and causative factors involved in the development of low back pain, and will be able to utilise the national guidelines for the treatment and management of low back pain.

Course Structure & Assessment

How you'll be assessed on our fitness course

This course takes place at T2HQ, which is our training centre housed within Blunsdon Fitness in Swindon. It offers a state of the art gym and fitness centre to give you the best training environment.

You will complete preliminary learning materials before joining our expert tutor over four days. You will also be required to attend fortnightly conference calls to catch up on your progress and check in with your tutor.

We limit our group sizes to ensure you receive the best possible learning experience, with plenty of individual attention, real-time feedback and coaching.

You will be assessed by a mixture of short and long answer papers and worksheets. You will also be required to submit a case study programme design and review. You will also be required to complete a final practical assessment where you will demonstrate an instruction session under observation of an assessor.

Employment Opportunities

Once you gain your Level 4 Certificate in Lower Back Pain, you can enjoy increased employability prospects from your enhanced qualification status. You can inform any referral schemes you are available to receive clients with low back pain, as well as advertise more widely for private clients use your specialist services.

Meet Your Lower Back Pain Course Tutor

Our resident movement and treatment expert, Paul has been with T2 since 2012. He was a full time PT and class instructor for his first 7 years in the fitness industry. He now spends most of his time teaching and presenting across the UK and abroad. His areas of expertise are movement assessment, anatomy and training for optimal movement quality.
